Finally, our Representatives in Congress are listening to us. Millions of Americans have let their voices be heard and, as a result, thwarted a bill that would have been devastating to free enterprise. More importantly, it would have given more power to a government that has become increasingly bloated. See for yourself
I know there are many Americans who are panicking over the state of our economy and rightly so. However, as Americans we have got to realize that we will overcome as long as we stick to our basic principles of free enterprise. We must remember that not only do we have the right to succeed, but also the right to fail. We can not continue to ask the government to bail us out from our mistakes because, by doing so, we give more and more power to the government.
Unfortunately, some of our representatives chose to take advantage of Americans who are concerned about our fragile economy by pushing a bill that would have given unprecedented power to the Federal Government and taken away the power of the people. Fortunately, common sense overcame hysteria (at least for now).
We have been hearing the mantra from the liberal politicians and press that the blame of the current economic state lies with the American free enterprise system. However, the facts speak for themselves. Government involvement with entities, such as, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have enabled companies to lower their standards of doing business with the assurance that the government would bail them out of any financial difficulty. At the same time, activist groups like ACORN have put pressure on banking and credit institutions to give loans to people who don't qualify.
Look, we all want every American to own their own home, but lowering the standards for a few is not the answer. The answer is to have an economic system that gives everyone the OPPORTUNITY to own their own home.
So, here is the question we need to ask ourselves. If government is the primary reason we are in this mess, why would we want government to bail us out?
It is time we take the approach "the buck stops here". We can not continue to pass our mistakes on to our kids and grand kids. I would rather take a financial hit now than pass along to my kids a fascist or socialist form of government.
America will overcome if we choose to empower the people rather than the government.
